Goodbye, classroom! Hello, summer! But for Troy, Gabriella, Chad, and Taylor, this vacation is no day at the beach; they're all working at a country club founded by none other than Ryan & Sharpay's grandfather! And with the club's annual Midsummer Night's Musical right around the corner, Sharpay's competitive instincts are sizzling. If she can manage to win the Star Dazzle award just one more time, the country club will name it after Sharpay, and it will be hers forever.
But this year, Sharpay faces some tough competition -- Gabriella! To have any hope of coming out on top, Sharpay knows that she'll need a secret weapon. Which is why she dumps Ryan and starts wooing Trop to be her new partner. Gabriella is less than thrilled that Troy has fallen under Sharpay's spell. How could he do that to her? Things are heating up on the lawns of high society. Will Troy & Gabriella realize that they were meant to be? Or is it too late for them to sing one last song together?

ZAC SPEAKS!
Popstar! was lucky enough to have a face-to-face, one-on-one interview with Zac Efron this week! Guess our support of him has paid off since many mags have to settle for phoners. Cheryl, our West Coast Reporter, had the honors, and she reports SEVERAL fascinating/important things:
Zac is aware of the "giving some interns his hotel room number" rumors and denies them! He said not to believe everything you read on the Internet...well, except on Popstar!'s MySpace, right??? He also said he'd "be in a lot of trouble" if he did anything like that. Wonder from who?
Zac is in Hawaii! He's there now, probably getting a real tan and taking some really deserved time off!
For the first time ever, Zac has reacted to the term "Zanessa!" We'll save more on this and other stuff for our JUL & AUG issues, but Zac says that phrase is "funny" and did not seem to dislike it. Cool times 10!

But it was even hotter today because I saw the preview for High School Musical 2! You guys, it looks soooo good. There was tons of dancing and singing, and a song about the last day of school. Totally fun. Plus, Zac looks way hot, and his hair is lighter than it has been for his role in Hairspray. I know a lot of you guys prefer his hair lighter, so there you go!
Here’s one tidbit I can pass along. I was hanging out with Lucas Grabeel today and he told me this secret about High School Musical 2: “Ryan’s going to see the error of Sharpay’s ways.”
And i have more Zanessa news!!!!
OMG, I almost forgot. Zac was looking at the cover of the May issue of BOP, and when he read the line on Vanessa that asked, “Is Vanessa dating Zac’s look-a-like?” he grabbed the magazine and asked, “Where is this in here?” So Heidi showed him the page, and he read it intently. Hmmm… wonder what THAT means?! LOL. Don’t worry, he wasn’t mad, but he sure was curious!

Mark your calendars, "High School Musical" fans: The sequel to the worldwide phenomenon will premiere August 17th on Disney Channel. "High School Musical 2" stopped shooting a week ago. But Gary Marsh, entertainment president for Disney Channel Worldwide, provided a preview to the Orlando Sentinel. He was in town for the Disney Channel Games, which are being played at Wide World of Sports. Still bummed that she was upstaged in the first movie, Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) plots her revenge. She arranges for Troy (Zac Efron) to land a summer job at her family's country club and tries to isolate him from his friends. He, however, brings his pals along to work at the club. Undeterred, Sharpay tempts Troy with opportunities. He loses his way and alienates his buddies. "The first one was about following your dreams," Marsh says. "This, thematically, is about: What’s important to me? Is it the material trappings of life that count? Or is it friends and family? This is Troy’s sense to locate his own personal moral compass and make sure he follows it."
Heroine Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) doesn't like the changes she sees in Troy and tells him he has become a different person. She sings "I've Gotta Go My Own Way." The first "High School Musical" added "Get'cha Head in the Game" to the pop-culture lexicon. The second could do the same for "I Don't Dance," a song about baseball. "Kenny Ortega has choreographed an entire baseball game with a combination of swing and hiphop," Marsh says. "The game is played out through dance."
Then there's "You Are the Music in Me," a romantic ballad between Troy and Gabriella. "It will stop you in your tracks," Marsh says. Marsh says the goal wasn't to make a better movie than the original, but to deepen the characters and tell a more sophisticated story. "What did I have going for me? The exact same team. Every single one of the stars came back," Marsh says. Director Ortega and writer Peter Barsocchini returned as well.
"We had a brilliant team on the first one," Marsh says. "The best thing I could do was reassemble them for the second one. That’s what I did." The marketing for the sequel will be marginally bigger than that for the original. "Our audience knows this movie is coming," Marsh says. "They couldn’t be more excited to see it. We just need to put it out in front of them and they’ll come."
A third "High School Musical," to be shown in theaters, is planned to premiere next year. Conversations about the actors returning for that project have just begun, Marsh says.

In our next printed issue after our poster special, JUL07, you will find confirmation of what we have known for a long time but have resisted saying outright (despite lots of hints): Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens have been dating off and on (mostly on) since High School Musical 1.
We never confirmed it only because they never confirmed it publicly, even though it's been an open secret to everyone around them and to everyone in the entertainment biz. Even their fans are aware of it—75% of you voted on our site at popstaronline.com that you thought they were dating.
Popstar! was the first mag to promote "Zanessa" and we always did so respectfully—never revealing private details that we have access to, or using sneaky photos (that are out there) proving they're seeing each other. We also didn't want to use other stars' interviews to "leak" the info because that would be silly since we already knew the truth.
After seeing Zac and Vanessa in the "Say OK" video, that kind of made it hard to pretend they were not an item! It was like when Justin & Britney and J.Lo & Marc Anthony were dating but wouldn't say it...at first, you go along with it. But enough's enough once everyone knows.
Still, we'll be treating them with a lot of respect and won't publish any deeply private things about them. So far, we have had no complaints from the cutest couple ever. We love them as individuals and as a real-life couple. Don't you?
Just wanted to let you 42,000 or so friends of ours on MySpace hear it from us here first before all our hundreds of thousands of readers hear it in JUL07!

J-14 interviewed Max, who appears in this spring's The Astronaut Farmer and who you'll see starring as Emma Roberts' boy toy in June's Nancy Drew movie. During the interview, J-14 asked Max whether or not he and Emma used any tricks to amp up their on-screen chemistry, because Zac and Vanessa had mentioned to us that their HSM director made them watch Romeo & Juliet together to increase theirs. Once again, the rumors are cleared up that Belinda from the Cheetah Girls is not replacing Vanessa in the South American Tour! So all you South American fans out there, make sure to go support Vanessa and the rest of the gang! "The immensely successful concert tour – which began in the United States with sold-out 42 date arena concerts in 40 cities reaching over 600,000 people – will start its first international leg in May with stops in: Buenos Aires on the 15th and 16th, Santiago on the 18th, São Paulo on the 20th, Caracas on the 22nd, Monterrey on the 24th and 25th, Mexico City on the 27th and Guadalajara on the 29th and 30th; where the songs and choreography of High School Musical will be experienced again by its fans.
Also this Thursday, April 19 (tomorrow) TRL is takin’ their ‘first look’ at Vanessa’s new music video ‘Say Ok’. So let’s vote for her so we can get her up to #1!!!
Plus don’t forget May 1 is the release of the High School Musical Concert DVD+CD!
